Hand-Worked Copper Wine Cooler | Tuscany | About 1800
Beautifully hand-worked copper wine cooler from central Italy, made in around 1800. It only needs some ice and a few bottles of champagne and it's ready to party.
A brilliant example of a metalworker's skill, with a wide, neatly turned-over lip, a wonderfully rounded body and rows of raised decoration. Look closely and you can still see the marks left by the tools used to shape the copper.
The copper has developed a lovely rich colour over time, which looks great with nearby candlelight. There are typical touches of verdigris in the grooves on the outside of the bowl, and a beautiful glow of green inside.
Fill it with bottles of champagne for a party, use it as a striking centrepiece, or simply leave it somewhere you can admire it. It has been tested, and it is water tight, so safe to use as a vase too and would hold a very large, dramatic arrangement.
Dimensions: H 24.5 cm × W 31 cm
Material: Solid, hand-beaten and worked copper.
Condition: Excellent overall condition for it's age and when compared with other examples. There are a few small dents in the body, visible on close inspection, but it hasn't lost its shape. There are also some very minor scratches inside and out. The dents are shown in the photographs.
