Victorian Mochaware Pint Jug | Brown and Green | VR Stamped 1871
A handsome Victorian mochaware pint mug in earthy brown and green, its simple banded decoration giving it a pleasingly graphic quality.
Dated 1871, this was made as an everyday object rather than a precious one. This sort of robust pottery was once found in pubs, taverns and ordinary homes. More than 150 years later, its warm colours, generous shape and wonderfully straightforward decoration give it timeless appeal.
A characterful piece of Victorian pottery that looks particularly good filled with flowers, holding pencils or brushes, or simply sitting on a shelf.
Dimensions: H12.5cm x W16cm x D 10cm
Condition: Solid, with no cracks, but several chips on the spout. Characteristic crazing on underneath and in the bottom of the inside. Discolouration of the glaze on the spout.
