Victorian Mochaware Pint Mug | Blue and Green | VR Seal
A characterful antique mochaware tavern mug, decorated with the distinctive branching ‘seaweed’ or dendritic pattern on a soft blue-green ground, with engine-turned bands of blue and dark brown-black.
Mochaware was practical everyday pottery, produced particularly in Staffordshire for use in pubs and Inns. This makes them quite rare as they were well used. The small lead verification plug near the rim, stamped ‘VR’, is a particularly interesting reminder of the mug’s original working life.
With all the charm and patina of age, it also feels curiously modern, thanks to its crisp stripes and fresh colours. A handsome piece of pottery to use as a vase (its been tested as watertight up to the plug), or simply enjoy on a shelf.
Dimensions: H12.5cm x W14cm x D 9cm
Condition: Excellent antique condition, with no chips or cracks. Very slight glaze loss to the rim and characteristic crazing to the glaze, heavier on the handle, around the base and underneath. There is also a small irregularity in the painted decoration beside the handle, dating from when it was made — a pleasing trace of the hand that decorated it.

Because we are a small UK business and not currently part of the IOSS scheme, VAT and duties are NOT included at checkout. Your local delivery provider may request: VAT at your country’s standard rate and a small customs handling/administration fee. These charges must be paid by the recipient for the parcel to be delivered.
Returns
We accept returns up to 21 days from the day your order is delivered.
We reserve the right to refuse any return on merchandise that does not meet our return requirements. We are unable to offer an exchange or refund on items that are deemed damaged upon return - scratched, worn or not in their original packaging. The customer is responsible for paying the return shipping cost. We cannot accept responsibility for parcels lost in transit.
