Antique Cast Iron Door Stop Porter | Original Painted Polychrome | Victorian
- Original Polychrome Paint: It is increasingly rare to find these pieces retaining their original 19th-century painted surface. While it was highly fashionable for decades to strip these items down to bare metal, this survivor boasts an incredible, untouched crusty patina with authentic natural flaking.
- Solid "Flatback" Casting: This is a heavy, solidly moulded piece of iron with a completely flat back designed to sit entirely flush against doors or skirting boards. It is not a cheap, hollowed-out modern reproduction.
- Custom Hand-Carved Wooden Base: While the tapered timber base is a historic addition rather than original to the foundry, it was crafted beautifully and has been in place for a very long time. It adds superb practical value by expanding the center of gravity (making it incredibly stable against heavy doors) while completely protecting fine interior hardwood or laminate floors from scratches.
- Expert Craftsmanship: The iron casting is seamlessly pinned directly into the wood block rather than screwed, meaning there are absolutely no ugly screw holes in the base and the pin heads on top remain completely flush and subtle.
