Vintage Duncan Grant Cushion | West Wind | Laura Ashley 1983
Laura Ashley cushion cover from their 1983 Duncan Grant fabric collection, in the iconic artist's 1932 'West Wind' design, in a now unavailable colourway of dove grey, sage and apricot.
Now very rare, this is both a pretty decorative accent and a collector's item. The designer, Duncan Grant, was a core member of the now-revered Bloomsbury Group, living for many years at Charleston Farmhouse with fellow artist Vanessa Bell and her husband.
Long before it became a byword for middle England, Laura Ashley was a fresh voice in British design, championing block printed natural fabrics and artist collaborations like this one. Pieces from this early period are now sought after and considered design icons in their own right.
Buy it because you love it, but look after it because it's a piece of design history.
Please note: Cushion pad not included.
Condition: Good. Clean, bright white and unmarked, with a good strong zip, but there is some fading to the colours of the prints. In particular the apricot has softened. Please note this is handmade piece made at the time from cotton fabric bought by the metre. It's recommended to hand wash it to prevent fading.
Dimensions: H 42cm x W 42cm. Fits standard 40cm x 40cm cushion pad.
